Wrexham’s FA Cup game back on ESPN airwaves

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham team is returning to ESPN airwaves.

The Red Dragons are in the FA Cup Second Round, which begins this weekend. It’s not exactly the World Cup, but for Wrexham supporters and fans of the Welcome to Wrexham TV series, it’s a treat to see Wrexham on US TV.

US fans can watch Wrexham’s FA Cup game this weekend

Wrexham’s FA Cup 2nd Round game against Farnborough is live on ESPNEWS in the United States as well as ESPN+. The game kicks off on Saturday, November 26 at 10:15AM ET, with pre-match coverage beginning five minutes before the start of the game.

The Welsh club’s first round FA Cup game that they won 3-0 against Oldham Athletic was shown on ESPN2 and ESPN+.

The interest in the Welsh club has skyrocketed after actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney purchased the club back in November 2020. The Welsh side are the world’s third oldest professional association football club and are currently in the fifth tier of English football.

Wrexham’s home stadium, the Racecourse Ground, is the oldest in the world when it comes to hosting international matches. It opened in 1864 having been initially built in 1807. It was recently reported that 5,500 seats will be added at the historic venue after the club got approval from the Wrexham County Borough Council.

Earlier this year in August, US TV channel FX premiered a documentary series on the club titled “Welcome to Wrexham”, as told by the owners, Reynolds and McElhenney. The show won the Critics choice documentary award for the best sports documentary.

Welcome to Wrexham revolves around the connection the owners have with the town while also providing eye catching animations and infographics that help explain the pyramid of the English professional football system.

The story is shown in a course of eight episodes, each lasting roughly thirty minutes. Earlier, it was claimed that the documentary was in the top ten of the most watched shows in the United States for the week of September 2.

Following the astounding success of the first season, the documentary will have a second season.
