fuboTV rebrands as Fubo, launches sports ad campaign

fuboTV, the sports-first streaming service, is rebranding to Fubo. In fact, Fubo announced the simplified name change on Tuesday while rolling out a new ad campaign. To specify that the streaming service is centralized around sports, NBA Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett and former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez feature in the campaign.

The producer of the ad campaign is none other than co-owner of Wrexham AFC, Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds’s production company, Maximum Effort, debuted the campaign starring the two former professional athletes in 15- and 30-second clips. In it, Fubo touts how it is ranked No. 1 by J.D. Power and Associates in terms of customer satisfaction for streaming services. Also, there is a heavy emphasis on the fact that Fubo now carries local sports networks. This includes Bally Sports, which broadcasts the NBA, NHL and MLB. It also used to house MLS clubs, before MLS went near-full streaming with Apple.

In general, the theme for the new-look fuboTV as Fubo is “If sports fans built a streaming service,” this is what it would look like. Pamela Duckworth, head of Fubo Networks and originals, believes the change in theme and the ad campaigns capture that emphasis on sports.

“In a time with seemingly endless options, our new brand campaign shows what sets Fubo apart as a must-have for sports fans,” said Duckworth. “We worked hand-in-hand with Maximum Effort to bring this concept to life and I’m extremely proud of the content we’re creating together.”

Noticeably, though, soccer was completely absent from the Fubo advertising.

fuboTV rebrands as just Fubo before exclusive soccer matches

Fubo’s focus on sports originally focused on soccer. At a cost of $7 per month when it launched in 2015, fuboTV, which is now Fubo, had access to more or less just soccer.

Now, it has a wide range of sports, entertainment, movies, TV and news channels. The most recent addition was the aforementioned regional sports networks such as Bally Sports.

Still, soccer is a major part of what Fubo does. And, on the week Fubo makes its change in name, major exclusive soccer games return to the provider. The 2024 European Championship Qualifiers start on March 23. France-Netherlands, Croatia-Wales and England-Ukraine are exclusive to Fubo. However, the provider also carries FS1 and FS2, which also have qualifying games in this competition.
