Wrexham see 404% increase in revenue in 12 months

Wrexham have recorded record revenues during the latest financial year. The Welsh club posted a turnover of about $7.2 million for the year that ended last summer. This is a 404% increase compared to the previous season.

Most of this boost can be attributed to overall matchday income, as well as jersey sales and sponsorship. The club has experienced a sizable increase in popularity thanks to the hit television show ‘Welcome to Wrexham‘. The show, produced by American network FX, has been a monumental success since its debut.

However, the show and the team’s recent success in the National League has come after the latest financial time frame ended. This will mean that the club should expect higher revenues for the next financial year.

Owners lose nearly $4 million during last financial year

Despite the record revenue, the owners of Wrexham lost around $3.7 million combined during the 2021/22 season. Hollywood duo Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds previously purchased the team in late 2020.

Club officials have attributed this figure to the increase in player wages and overall rising operating costs.

Along with buying the club, McElhenney and Reynolds also spent millions to purchase The Racecourse Ground. This investment also included plans to improve the dilapidated stadium.

Regardless of the losses, the owners are not going anywhere. The duo plan to continue funding Wrexham well into the future. The directors issued a statement on the latest financial findings. “We remain committed to playing a full part in the life of the club and making a positive difference, in every way, for the benefit of everyone in this wonderful place we have taken to our hearts,” the statement read.

Wrexham’s popularity is booming

The high-profile new owners have certainly made a massive impact on the club’s global popularity. In fact, Wrexham recently published statistics that showed just how much the club as grown in recent years.

A huge increase in social media followers was apparent across the board. For instance, the club surpassed 1.5 million followers across all social media portals in February. This included adding 500,000 new combined followers between December and February.

Wrexham are currently leading the National League at the moment. Promotion to League Two would give the club an even bigger boost heading into next season.
