Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney meet The King

King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla met with Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney during a visit to Wrexham. The King made the journey to the team’s stadium during celebrations of Wrexham’s new city status. Wrexham, the fourth-biggest city in Wales, became the eighth place in the United Kingdom to receive city status this year.

Prior to the meeting, Reynolds said that he was thrilled to welcome the King to Wrexham. “I would say that we’re impossibly excited to welcome him to the Racecourse ground, this historic church that resides in the heart of Wrexham and is the heart of Wrexham,” the actor stated.

“Rob and I both said early on, and this holds true and for the rest of our lives, we will do anything to uplift and elevate this community and this club and having the King pay a visit is certainly one way to do it. That’s for sure.”

Reynolds wished to discuss stadium ideas with the King

The Deadpool star also hoped that he could discuss plans for the club with the King. “I would love to tell him a little bit about what it is that we’re hoping to achieve with the renovation of the Kop stand,” said Reynolds. “And it’s not even a renovation, I would say that it’s a complete reimagining of the Kop stand, and what that will mean to not just the club, but the community of Wrexham as well.”

It was previously announced that the acting duo had received approval to expand Wrexham’s home stadium. Racecourse Ground, one of the oldest soccer stadiums in the world, will be soon set for a facelift. Plans are in place for a new 5,500-seat stand to be added to the historic arena.

Along with touring the stadium, the King also visited a nearby church and walked around Wrexham’s city center. Hundreds of people visited the celebration in the freezing cold conditions.

Wrexham has now become the seventh Wales city to receive the honor. Bangor, Cardiff, Newport, St. Davids, St. Asaph, and Swansea were the other previous recipients of the city status.
