Twitter delivered 147 billion impressions for World Cup 2022

Twitter has announced some impressive statistics regarding the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and total impressions. The tournament was overwhelmingly successful on the pitch, as many games were filled with action, drama, and incredible moments. A buzzworthy World Cup meant for a ton of conversations from all over the globe on Twitter.

According to the social media company, there were 147 billion conversation impressions on the app throughout the competition. This was 226% more than the 2018 World Cup in Russia and more than doubled the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Obviously, the epic Final between Argentina and France saw the number of impressions reach their peak.

Argentina won what many consider the greatest World Cup Final in history. Superstar Lionel Messi guided his team to their third title, but his first with the team. The South American’s beat France in a dramatic penalty shootout to collect the trophy.

Messi mania at World Cup takes over Twitter impressions

Messi was also quite predictably the most talked about player on the platform as well. The 35-year-old star had previously won just about every trophy in his illustrious career except for the World Cup. He also announced that the 2022 tournament would be his final attempt at it. Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Son Heung-min rounded out the top five players talked about on Twitter.

Argentina won the tournament. However, it ranked third on the list of most tweets sent during the World Cup. Rivals Brazil topped the chart and Japan was second. The United States and France were also in the top five as well.

FOX Sports sees record numbers

Here Stateside, FOX Sports had their top digital content campaign in their history. A record number of sports fans viewed FIFA World Cup NOW on Twitter. Videos from the network featuring Kate Abdo, DaMarcus Beasley, Maurice Edu, Carli Lloyd, Landon Donovan, Warren Barton, and Chad Ochocinco helped bring a wide range of content to World Cup watchers.
