The Pressure Is On: Philipp Lahm Admits Squad Fatigue At Bayern Munich

Lahm Speaks Out After Bayern Munich's Poor Form.

In an interview with Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Philipp Lahm identified a high amount of pressure as the squad’s achilles heel early on this season. After some poor results early on, Bayern Munich have been left reeling in the wake of Mainz and Borussia Dortmund, who are thirteen and ten points ahead of them respectively. With so much being made of Bayern Munich’s lack of form after having such a fantastic season last term, Lahm has come out in the press and has answered a couple of questions about the reasons behind his side’s awful start to the season.

When Philipp Lahm spoke to Bild, he said:

“Tiredness from the World Cup must no longer be an excuse. The problems at Bayern are deeper. We are already playing under severe pressure due to the lack of success at the start of the season. We always need to win and this pressure can be tiring.”

The concern here is when Lahm admits that the problems at Bayern are ‘deeper’ than just poor fitness. With Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeness backing Louis van Gaal and slamming the players, it makes one wonder what or who exactly Philipp Lahm is hinting at.

When Lahm was interviewed bySueddeutsche Zeitung, he opened up on the subject:

“You feel a little bit empty but you are actually fully motivated. However, there is sometimes a lack of drive. It is difficult to do something about it but now is the time to move away from such talk.”

Lahm mentions motivation, and a lack of drive. Funny, isn’t that something the manager of a football club is supposed to take care of?
