Ten Hag lambasts United showing with post-game punishment

After a historically embarrassing performance at Anfield, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag put his players through quite the punishment after the loss.

Liverpool players and fans, deservedly boisterous after the 7-0 win, were rampant in the celebration. While United sulked into the dressing room, ten Hag wanted the dressing room quiet, according to The Mirror. He made his players sit through Liverpool players celebrate in the neighboring dressing room while the thousands still in the stands continued singing songs. The United squad consists of Champions League winners and United academy products alike. All had insult topped on the on-field embarrassment.

In fact, the 7-0 loss equals United’s biggest defeat, a margin unseen for United since 1931. After the silent treatment, ten Hag began his inquest by ripping into the squad. Addressing the media, ten Hag said the second half disgusted him. The word the Dutchman continued to use was unprofessional.

Ten Hag starts United build back with on-field punishment

On Monday, United was back to work on the training ground to answer the many queries Liverpool asked. The manager brought the players back in early on Monday for what is likely going to be a brutal week of training before a Europa League tie with Real Betis on Thursday.

In terms of how the loss affects the table, United still has something of a comfortable spot in the table. The Red Devils have a four point gap over Tottenham for third. Plus, United has played one fewer game. Yet, looking above United, this loss practically takes them out of the title charge. Moreover, the performances of Arsenal and Manchester City look unattainable. United is nine points back of City, which is in second. It is now 14 points behind league-leading Arsenal.

Ten Had likely hopes his, and Liverpool’s punishment serves as a wake up call for the remaining two-and-a-half months of the season.
