Sunday's Bundesliga Preview: Bremen And Wolfsburg Must Win

Thomas Schaaf Will Have The Heaviest Heart In Bremen If His Side Lose Again.

Saturday’s games saw the Bundesliga’s main title challengers all pick up positive results, which puts the pressure on Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg – who should be challenging for at least European football – to get positive results themselves. Let’s get to the games.

Werder Bremen v St. Pauli

If there’s any team that Werder Bremen fans will expect their side to beat at home, it’s newly promoted St. Pauli. Still, it’s so hard to see Bremen beating anybody on this kind of form. They’ve been appalling for so long now that I’m sure even Werder Bremen’s most die-hard supporters will be worried about their side’s recent defensive catastrophies. I really hope, for Thomas Schaaf’s sake, that Werder Bremen get the three points here. They badly need the win and if they do get it, it might just lift the squad a little bit and put them on a decent run. They’ve got a plethora of injuries throughout the squad, so we may see the same kind of makeshift side we saw against Tottenham in mid-week. I just hope it doesn’t get embarrassing. They really are in dire condition!

FC Koln v VfL Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg look so impressive on paper, but they’ve failed to deliver this season under Steve McClaren. Away to Koln is never easy, but the home side have been in poor form and Wolfsburg’s quality should guide them to a win. The pressure is mounting on the English manager, and he’ll know that he needs to start racking up some major points if he wants to challenge for a European spot this season. Dzeko and Grafite are always reliable, but the rest of the squad hasn’t been as consistent as McClaren would have hoped. They need to get back to winning ways, and this is a great place to start.
