The Geordies sit second bottom in the table (only above Burnley on goal difference). A loss today and the pressure will surely mount on owner Mike Ashley to make a decision regarding Pardew’s future at the club.

Meanwhile, despite a promising start to the season, Stoke sits in fourth from bottom position in the league. A league today, however, will move the club up to seventh, such are the narrow margins in the table.
