Tottenham Hotspur star striker Richarlison appears set to be sidelined because of fresh injury concerns. The Athletic is reporting that the 25-year-old forward suffered a hamstring injury in the build up to Brazil’s match against Croatia on Friday. Despite the setback, the striker managed to play for the World Cup favorites.
However, Richarlison was substituted by head coach Tite in the 84th minute of the match. With the scoreline even at 0-0, many fans and pundits were confused that Tite would bring off his striker. Nevertheless, the move makes sense now knowing that the star had injury issues. Brazil went on to drop the game on penalties and subsequently departed the tournament.
Star reports back to Spurs to receive scan
Richarlison reported back to Spurs on Monday for scans on the injured hamstring. This was about a week earlier than previously scheduled. Although results of the scan has not yet been released, there are concerns that the Brazilian could be out for around a month.
The former Everton forward only just joined Spurs this summer in a deal worth around $70 million. Despite the hefty price tag, Richarlison has not scored for his club in over three months. In fact, the Brazilian has yet to register a Premier League goal for Spurs so far. However, he has missed time due to a previous ankle injury and manager Antonio Conte hasn’t always given him a starting spot.
Nevertheless, Richarlison has been on fire for his national team. The forward has racked up 10 goals in as many matches with Brazil this year. This includes three goals at the 2022 World Cup.
Richarlison not only injury concerns for Spurs
As Spurs sweat on the Brazilian’s fitness, the north London club is also dealing with injury concerns with Rodrigo Bentancur. The Uruguayan was injured at the World Cup and will miss a few weeks because of a thigh issue. Defender Ben Davies was also injured at the tournament and will likely be on the sidelines for a few weeks as well.
Spurs next play Brentford on December 26th. Bentancur was already suspended for the game, but Richarlison and Davies look unlikely to be fit for the league fixture.
