South Korea head coach Paulo Bento has revealed his 26-man World Cup 2022 roster.
Included in this squad is Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-Min. The forward fractured the orbital bone in his face just 11 days ago.
Because of the injury, Son had to be substituted in the first half of a Champions League match with Marseille on November 1st.
The South Korean previously needed to be helped off of the pitch during the game in France. Although he was able to walk off the field on the night, Son wobbled and appeared to have trouble with his vision as he went down the tunnel.
Bento claimed that he has spoken with his star player before making the decision. “We are in contact with him, with the Tottenham medical department, but about the exact time, the exact day he can train with the team we don’t have that information yet,” Bento explained as he revealed his 26-man squad on Saturday.
“So we need to wait, we need to analyze day-by-day his situation,” the coach continued. “We have time to decide and the most important is he recovers as well as possible, he feels comfortable and then we will take the final decision.”
Spurs have missed Son while he recovers from injury
Son has obviously not played a match since the Marseille game early this month. The injury forced the star to miss the final three Spurs games before the World Cup break. The north London outfit has clearly missed one of their most important players.
Without Son, Spurs have lost to Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. The Liverpool loss was a tightly-contested Premier League matchup. However, the defeat away to Forest came in the Carbao Cup third round. Spurs also have a Premier League matchup against Leeds on Saturday. It is their final game before the World Cup break.
Bento’s team will start their World Cup in Qatar with a matchup against Uruguay on Thursday, November 24th. The Asian team is part of a tough Group H alongside Portugal, Ghana, and Uruguay.
