Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez ruled out for two months

Real Madrid were dealt a huge blow tonight when it was learned that Colombian midfielder James Rodriguez would be ruled out of action for two months with a broken right foot.

James suffered the injury in the 26th minute of tonight’s match against Sevilla – Madrid would go on to win the contest 2-1 and extend their lead in La Liga to four points over Barcelona.

Prior to the injury, the Colombian had given Madrid an early lead with a diving header in the 12th minute. But a little over ten minutes later, the midfielder was being treated by medics and walking gingerly on his feet.

The midfielder was removed from the match and headed straight down the tunnel before being sent to the hospital for x-rays. After 45 minutes, a scan revealed a break in the fifth metatarsal of the right foot.

James will undergo surgery tomorrow morning and is expected to be out for at least two months.

After a stellar performance during last summer’s World Cup in Brazil, Real Madrid signed James from AS Monaco for a reported fee of £60 million. The Colombian midfielder had featured in 30 matches for the Spanish club, scoring 12 goals and tallying nine assists in all competitions while logging close to 2,000 minutes played.

While Madrid still boast a wealth of attacking options, there’s no questioning the significance the midfielder’s absence will have on Carlo Ancelotti’s side. The Colombia international was enjoying a solid debut season in Spain up until tonight’s events.

Up next for Los Blancos is the Madrid derby on Saturday.

Programming note: Atletico Madrid vs. Real Madrid will be shown LIVE on Saturday morning starting at 9:55am EST on beINSPORTS and DishWorld.
