David de Gea

Real Madrid to complete the signing of David de Gea in the next few days, says report

Real Madrid are expected to complete the signing of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea in the next few days, with the Spain international set to be officially presented at the Bernabeu next week, according to Spanish State television RTVE.

The report does not specify the length of De Gea’s contract or the transfer fee agreed upon by United and Madrid for the player. But speculation is the amount is between £20-25 million.

RTVE is also reporting Iker Casillas has backtracked on earlier comments and is prepared to leave Real Madrid this summer.

Just a few weeks ago, the team captain said he had no plans on leaving Madrid and “welcomed” the challenge of competing against David de Gea – should the United player ultimately join him in the Spanish capital next season.

“Next year, I see myself between these posts,” Casillas told Cadena SER. “I have no plans to leave Madrid. I’ll confront next season as though it is my first; that’s the challenge I’ve set on myself.

“Contrary to the rumors doing the rounds, the club has told me to stay.

“If De Gea comes here, he’ll be welcomed. Competition is healthy. We’ll have to compete for a place like we do with Spain.”

However, it appears that the reality of competing against De Gea for the number one spot in Real Madrid next season has hit Casillas and now the veteran player is ready to move on to another European side.

RTVE reports that Real Madrid would like to give the team captain a proper sending off once the announcement of his departure is official.

According to various reports, Casillas has up to ten offers from various clubs and, right now, the most likely one, from an economic standpoint, is coming from the Turkish side Fenerbache.
