Mexico International Raul Jimenez Signs Six-Year Deal With Atletico Madrid, Say Reports

Atletico Madrid has signed Club America striker Raul Jimenez to a six-year deal according to the Spanish press. An official announcement from both clubs will be made on Wednesday and the player is rumored to be on his way to Madrid to be unveiled to Atletico supporters.

The reigning champions of La Liga has reportedly paid a fee of £8.5 million for the Mexico international.

News of negotiations between Club America and Atletico Madrid surfaced this weekend, with both sides confident a deal would progress rapidly.

Jimenez started in the Club America youth system and has been with the legendary Mexican side for fifteen years. He made his first appearance in the club’s senior squad in 2011, and since then has totaled 96 appearances with 36 goals.

The Club America striker was a member of Mexico’s gold medal winning team during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and later made his national team debut against Denmark in January 2013.

His tally in the current Torneo Apertura (after three games) is four goals in just 170 minutes on the field.

Diego Simeone has been trying to find a strike partner for newly-signed Mario Mandzukic in recent weeks. He may have found that player in the young Mexican striker.

Jimenez announced his presence on the world scene with a spectacular game-winning 16-yard bicycle kick against Panama during Mexico’s CONCACAF qualifier last October.

Had El Tri dropped points in that match, they would have likely missed out on the World Cup for the first time since 1990.
