Martin Odegaard trains with first team ahead of Real Madrid Castilla debut

Norwegian wonderkid Martin Odegaard took part in his first training session with Real Madrid’s first team on Thursday.

The Norway international chose Madrid over a host of big named suitors because he believed the ten-time champions of Europe were the best option for his career development. The midfielder completed his signing from Stromsgodset a little over a week ago and will earn approximately £40,000-a-week for the La Liga side.

The teenage prodigy will practice with the senior squad, but will be suiting up for the Spanish club’s reserve side (Real Madrid Castilla) until manager Carlo Ancelotti determines the young player is ready for the Primera Division.

Yesterday, the 16-year-old was partnered with Gareth Bale for a sprinting exercise – which the Welshman easily won. Shortly thereafter, Bale was seen giving the young attacking midfielder some encouraging words of advice.

Following the training session, the Wales international took to his official Twitter account to comment on his new teammate: “Nice to have Martin Odegaard join us at training today, top talent and good guy.”

Odegaard will likely feature this weekend for Real Madrid Castilla in the B team’s match against Trival Vanderas Alcorcon on Sunday.
