Late last night, reports began surfacing from Spain that Norwegian wonderkid Martin Odegaard had arrived in Madrid with his father and agent ahead of a suspected move to the ten-time champions of Europe.
It is now understood that the 16-year-old has trained with Real Madrid’s reserves and was introduced to a handful Los Blancos first-team members. The teenager is expected to attend tomorrow’s training session with Castilla (Real Madrid’s reserve side).
Odegaard has now trained three separate times with the La Liga giants. The midfielder arrived in Madrid earlier this summer (July) to workout with the squad and visit the club’s facilities. He then followed that tour and appearance up with another session in November.
The Spanish publication AS believes that Madrid will offer Odegaard’s current club, Stromsgodset, a fee of approximately 4 million euros (£3.3 million) for their highly-rated attacking midfielder. The teenager will be out of contract with the Norwegian side this summer and the club want to cash in on the player now, instead of losing him on a free transfer in June.
Bayern Munich were reportedly willing to make Odegaard the highest paid youth player in the history of the sport. Marca stated last month that the Bundesliga champions had offered the midfielder a five-year contract and a salary which would see him earn 1 million euros (£787,000) during his first season, the numbers would then increase to up to 2.5 million euros (£1.96 million). But it appears that Real Madrid have beaten their German competitors out in the race to sign the Norwegian wonderkid.
Speculation in Norway is Madrid has already given Odegaard the number 16 jersey and will list him with the first team. Norwegian camera crews and journalists have traveled to the Spanish capital to document the pending announcement from the reigning champions of Europe.
It is not known if the player will be in attendance for today’s Madrid derby.
