Man United make improved offer for midfielder Andreas Pereira

Manchester United have made an improved contract offer to Andreas Pereira in order to secure the talented midfielder past this season.

Pereira is out of contract in the summer and two months ago rejected United’s initial offer for a new deal. The midfielder is poised to leave Old Trafford unless the two sides can come to an agreement before the end of the season.

Prior to the international break, Louis van Gaal elected to include Pereira in his match day squad against Tottenham and Liverpool in an attempt to convince the teenager there is a future for him at United. Whether or not the manager’s decision came too late has yet to be determined.

Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord have all expressed an interest in securing the attacking midfielder’s services.

The fear among United supporters is Pereira could follow in the footsteps of former youth academy product Paul Pogba, who left the club for Juventus in 2012 due to a lack of first-team playing time. Pogba has since become one of the best midfielders in the world and is valued at approximately £75 million.

Pereira joined United as a 15-year-old from PSV Eindhoven and has been a regular with the club’s under-18 and under-21 sides.

This season, the teenager made his senior debut for the club during United’s 4-0 defeat to MK Dons in the second round of the League Cup. The midfielder would not feature again in Louis van Gaal’s squad until March 15th against Tottenham when he was brought on as a substitute for Juan Mata during the club’s 3-0 victory over Spurs.

Pereira is naturally talented and possesses the attacking qualities admired by United supporters. The 19-year-old’s potential is limitless.

However, there are other players within the clubs youth ranks who work harder and have shown more consistency on a day-to-day basis.

Louis van Gaal has a proven track record for developing young players and giving them an opportunity within his senior squad. Whether or not that will be enough for Pereira to remain at Old Trafford will be determined in the coming days and weeks.
