Lower division clubs were dealt a dose of Premier League reality on Tuesday, with three fixtures in the Capital One Cup quarterfinals between Premier and Football League sides going the way of top-tier clubs. The results leave Manchester City, Everton and Stoke in the competition’s final four, with the semifinals’ last spot to be settled on Wednesday between Southampton and Liverpool.
Manchester City put in dominant performance at the Etihad Stadium against Hull City, building on the 1-0 lead they took into intermission with three second half goals. With a late consolation tally from Andrew Robertson, the Tigers were able to prevent a clean sheet, but two goals from Kevin de Bruyne helped the Premier League leaders to a 4-1 victory.
