Man Utd fan group livid that club owner set to attend League Cup final

The Daily Mail has reported that Manchester United Executive Co-Chairman and Director Avram Glazer is set to attend Wembley on Sunday to watch his side take on Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup Final.

The report comes at a delicate time, as the Glazer family have put Manchester United up for sale after 18 years of controversial ownership.

Glazer’s presence in the stands will further heighten tensions between majority stakeholders, the Glazer family, and the United faithful.

Manchester United fans have been vocal in displaying their frustrations ever since the club was put up for sale. Glazer last witnessed a game during United’s 2-1 opening-day loss to Brighton at Old Trafford.

Glazer WANTS to see United lift a trophy

The Athletic claims that the 62-year-old desires to be in Wembley as the Red Devils attempt to win a trophy for the first time in six years.

Anytime a member of the Glazer family has been at Old Trafford, they have been met with banners reading, “Fight greed. Fight for United. Fight Glazers” and “We want our club back.”

It will be interesting to see if the club fans resort to any show of public display during the cup final.

Takeover bids received

Last week the club received two separate offers, one from chemical firm INEOS, led by British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, and the other from Qatari Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani.

It is believed that the latter has tabled a bid in the region of £4.5 Billion, claiming that the takeover would take the club to its former glory.

On the other hand, Ratcliffe had hired JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs to advise him on his bid, the exact details of which aren’t known. The 70-year-old tried to buy Chelsea last May when he bid £4.25 Billion to buy the London club.

While Al Thani’s bid is for 100% ownership of United, Ratcliffe’s offer through his company is to take over the 69% of stock the Glazers own.

This would mean the Qatari business magnate would also require an additional process to buy the 31% shares not controlled by the Glazers.

It is believed that the Glazers are holding out for £6 Billion to hand over their shares to the potential buyer. Club officials hope a sale can be finalized by the end of March.
