FC Barcelona are entering a decisive stretch of the 2024–25 season, with multiple competitions approaching their climax. However, team star Lamine Yamal may suffer a major setback, as a key teammate could be sidelined with an injury ahead of the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid.

Barcelona visited Leganes for a tough La Liga Matchday 31 clash, struggling to find their rhythm but ultimately securing a 1–0 victory thanks to an own goal. Despite the win, the squad took a hit with the loss of an important player due to injury.

Left back Alejandro Balde was forced off in the 41st minute of the first half after appearing to suffer a muscle injury. Although the club’s medical staff at Ciutat Esportiva still needs to evaluate him, Mundo Deportivo has reported that Balde may have sustained a femoral biceps injuryan issue that could sideline him for two to three weeks.

When asked about Balde’s fitness, head coach Hansi Flick offered a cautious update following the match. “We have to see it tomorrow. From my experience, we’ll have to wait before we answer something like that,” he said in the post-game press conference.

Balde has been an integral part of Flick’s squad this season, logging 43 appearances, one goal, and 10 assists. If the timeline holds, he will likely miss at least the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.

In Balde’s absence, Gerard Martin is expected to step in. The 23-year-old defender replaced Balde against Leganes and made an immediate impact, regaining possession in the buildup to the game’s only goal.

Key weeks ahead for Yamal and Barcelona

For the first time in his young career, Lamine Yamal is set to navigate a season-ending run with silverware on the line in all three major competitions. Up first is Tuesday’s return leg against Dortmund, with Barca holding a commanding 4–0 aggregate lead.

But the challenges won’t stop there. Currently leading La Liga with 70 points from 31 matches, Barcelona will look to maintain their position at the top of the table. On April 26, they’ll meet Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final—an opportunity for either side to secure another trophy in what has been a heated season.
