Julian Nagelsmann wants to join Spurs after rejecting Chelsea

Former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann is reportedly focused on Tottenham Hotspur. The 35-year-old coach was fired by the German giants in March after the club slipped to second in the Bundesliga standings. Nagelsmann was succeeded by Thomas Tuchel in Bavaria on the same day he was dismissed. According to Christian Falk, Tuchel rejected Spurs before taking the job in Munich.

Nagelsmann has switched his focus across London

Upon his Allianz Arena exit, the former Hoffenheim coach was a frontrunner for the vacant coaching position at Chelsea. After all, many see him as one of the brightest young coaches in the world. However, the German has now removed himself from contention for Stamford Bridge post.

Caught Offside reporter, and Bayern Munich expert, Christian Falk is now claiming that Nagelsmann has switched his focus to Tottenham Hotspur. The fellow Premier League side also has a managerial vacancy after sacking Antonio Conte in March. Assistant coach Cristian Stellini is currently at the helm on a temporary basis until the end of the season.

Both Chelsea and Spurs have endured difficult seasons. The Blues are currently in the bottom half of the table, despite spending nearly $600 million on transfers since Todd Boehly purchased the club. Spurs, on the other hand, are slightly better off. The north London outfit entered Matchday 32 fifth in the table. They are currently three points adrift of a Champions League qualification place.

German coach could see Spurs as an easier option

It remains to be seen why Nagelsmann pulled out of the running for the Chelsea job. Nevertheless, dealing with Todd Boehly could very well have been an issue. The American businessman has already fired two high-profile managers during the 2022/23 season and even reportedly delivered a scathing team talk after the club’s defeat against Brighton.

Along with a seemingly difficult owner, Chelsea also need drastic structural changes this summer. Despite spending a massive amount of money, the Blues have to make some major decisions on their squad. The biggest concern currently at Spurs is convincing superstar striker Harry Kane to stay at the club. Kane will wait until a new coach arrives to decide on his future.
