Julian Green Accepts Germany U-19 Call, But USMNT Future Remains a Possibility: Nightly Soccer Report

In a blow to US Soccer, talented Bayern Munich striker Julian Green has decided to accept a call-up to the U-19 Germany squad instead of training with the US Men’s National Team who will be preparing for their upcoming friendlies against Scotland and Austria.

Green recently accepted a call-up by the USMNT squad. But Green later decided to turn down the invitation.

Klinsmann explained:

“We are going to give Julian an opportunity to breathe. All of these conversations and attention can be a bit overwhelming for a young player, so we decided to take the foot off the pedal and let him focus on his work at Bayern. We had a great conversation. He’s a mature young man and he clearly has a bright future. I told him that when the time is right, the door is wide open.”

Green took time to breathe, and decided to accept a call-up to Germany U-19 during the upcoming international break. His agent said:

“He has started the qualification matches with the German U-19 team and wants to support this team in the upcoming matches, as well. These matches are a great opportunity for him as a young player to gain further international experience without being determinate too early.”

Green still has a chance to select the US Men’s National Team as the country he wants to play for, but today is worrying news for USMNT fans and Klinsmann.
