Jose Mourinho has reportedly been offered at least $125 million to become head coach of the Saudi Arabia national team. Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport claims that the offer is for a two-year deal. If the Portuguese manager accepts, he would become the highest-paid coach in the world.
There are also significant options to be included in a potential contract with Saudi Arabia. Mourinho could choose to tear up the deal after the first year. Or, ‘The Special One’ could also opt to extend the contract until 2026. This latter option would keep Mourinho at the helm for the 2026 World Cup.
Reunion with Ronaldo also possible
Along with the national team, Saudi club Al-Nassr is also interested in bringing in Mourinho. Current team head coach Rudi Garcia is likely to depart the club at the end of the season. Cristiano Ronaldo plays for Al-Nassr after signing for the team back in January. Mourinho and Ronaldo previously worked together at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013. The duo collected the LaLiga title in 2012.
Mourinho is currently head coach for Serie A club Roma. He was brought in ahead of the 2021/22 campaign and has managed to win about 53% of his total matches in charge of the Italian club. Mourinho won the newly formed Europa Conference League in his first season with Roma. It was the club’s first trophy in 14 years.
Jose Mourinho could switch to Saudi Arabia with Roma uncertainty
Nevertheless, Mourinho’s role with Roma is currently up in the air. Despite winning the third-tiered European tournament, the club finished sixth in the domestic table last season. Roma are currently fifth in the Serie A table and the club’s brass expect Champions League soccer.
Along with results on the pitch, the coach has also been at odds with team officials over transfers. According to reports in Italy, Mourinho demands at least a new striker, midfielder and defender when the summer window opens.
Get Football Daily also claims that the coach wants his future secured as soon as possible. However, the two sides have apparently not yet discussed plans. Mourinho has one more year remaining on his current contract with Roma.
