England center forward Harry Kane has reportedly trained on Wednesday in advance of the England contest against the USMNT. The team’s No. 1 goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, claimed that the star striker practiced alongside his teammates.
“I think [Kane’s] good,” stated Pickford. “Probably feeling a little bit sore, but I think he’s fine. He was out with us on the grass today so that’s good. He’s our captain and I think he’s fine.”
England defeated Iran, 6-2, in the Three Lions first game at the World Cup. A win over the United States on Friday guarantees a spot in the round of 16.
Kane has ankle injury history
Kane departed that game on Monday after feeling discomfort in his ankle. The 29-year-old Tottenham star has a bit of a history of ankle issues. In fact, he has missed matches at least six separate times since 2013 because of ankle injuries.
Kane underwent a scan on any apparent injury. However, this was just for precautionary reasons.
Callum Wilson, the player that was brought on as Kane’s substitute against Iran, did not train on Wednesday. Yet, reports believe Wilson should be available for Friday’s fixture.
Harry Kane and the England depth against the USMNT
Pickford also noted how deep this England team is. Despite Kane being forced to leave, Wilson is no slouch. “Everyone will take their chance,” said Pickford. “When Harry came off, Callum came on and played really well, got the assist for Jack [Grealish]. He was really unselfish and gave Jack his goal.”
“Everyone is training really hard,” the goalkeeper continued. “Everyone’s here for a reason: to play football. But obviously Harry is an unbelievably player. He sets the example in the squad. He’s the leader, he’s the captain. We all look up to him. But there are also opportunities for other lads as well.”
The USMNT will face a tough task to try to slow down a potent England team. Gregg Berhalter’s side have to quiet Kane if they have any chance to pull of a big upset on Friday.
