Harry Kane has established as one of the best players in the world. Under head coach Vincent Kompany, he has emerged as the central figure of Bayern Munich, leading both the creative and goalscoring aspects, making him one of the top candidates for the 2026 Ballon d’Or. Building on an already historic campaign, the English striker has broken a scoring record previously held by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard in the competition.

After scoring in the first leg of the 2025–26 Champions League semifinals, Harry Kane found the net in six consecutive matches in the competition. In doing so, the striker surpassed the record previously held by Steven Gerrard, who scored in five straight games with Liverpool during the 2007–08 season. With 13 goals, the Englishman stands as the second top scorer, pushing for the award as the competition’s best player.

Alongside his strong performances in the Champions League, Kane has already scored 54 goals and provided 7 assists in 46 matches, making him the leading candidate to win the European Golden Boot. Given his outstanding goalscoring output and overall impact, the Englishman could emerge as the top favorite for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, marking what could be the best season of his professional career.

Bayern Munich have transformed Harry Kane’s career, elevating his impact to historic levels. While he had already enjoyed remarkable success at Tottenham Hotspur, he has now won two Bundesliga titles and a German Super Cup—his first major trophies at the professional level. In addition, the Englishman has matched Cristiano Ronaldo’s feat, recording 12 or more goal contributions in three consecutive Champions League seasons.

Harry Kane may need a Champions League title to clinch a Ballon d’Or

Despite being 32 years old, Harry Kane remains the most in-form striker in the world, especially as Kylian Mbappé raises serious doubts regarding his collective impact at Real Madrid. While his current level could position him as the leading favorite for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, the Englishman does not have an easy path. To win the award, he would likely need to lead Bayern Munich to a Champions League title.

Following the 5–4 defeat against PSG, the German side now faces the difficult task of overturning the aggregate score. If they fail to complete the comeback, Kane could lose any real chance of winning the Ballon d’Or, shifting toward Ousmane Dembélé, Vitinha, or João Neves from PSG. However, their chances would also depend heavily on their performances at the World Cup, which is expected to be the decisive factor. As a result, Harry faces a major challenge.
