With less than 30 days until the FIFA Women’s World Cup this summer in Canada, FOX Sports has announced the team that will be covering all the action beginning on June 4th.
The group selected to provide play-by-play and in-studio coverage of FOX’s first major soccer tournament for the United States is a mixture of former players and well recognized voices. The list released by FOX is as follows, in alphabetical order;
Glenn Davis & Christine Latham
JP Dellacamera, Cat Whitehill & Tony DiCicco
Jenn Hildreth & Kyndra de St. Aubin
Justin Kutcher & Aly Wagner
John Strong & Danielle Slaton
Alongside the play-by-play teams, Angela Hucles, will be joining the coverage to help analyze the games with the entire event produced by David Neal, FIFA Women’s World Cup on FOX Executive Producer. “Our dynamic group of game commentators brings world-class knowledge and diverse experience to our coverage of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup,” Neal said.
Bringing in-studio support to Vancouver starting June 4th will be Alexi Lalas, Heather Mitts, Eric Wynalda, Leslie Osborne, Angela Hucles, Kelly Smith, Ariane Hingst, Monica Gonzalez, Christine Latham and Dr. Joe Machnik with hosts Kate Abdo and Rob Stone from the newly constructed FOX studios.
The U.S. Women’s National Team has been drawn into Group D with their games starting on June 8th against Australia followed by Sweden on June 12th and lastly will face Nigeria on June 16th. Dellacamera, Whitehill and DiCicco will be present for the games calling each one, if the USWNT progresses past the group stages assignments will be released by FOX at a later date.
FOX will be broadcasting all 52 games live from FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports 2 as well as the FOX Sports Go mobile app and online at www.FOXSportsGO.com.
After purchasing the rights last year, just before the Men’s World Cup in Brazil, FOX has only had a few friendlies and the tournament’s group draw in order to get ready for the largest women’s competition in the world. Fortunately for the network the group heading to Canada has experience with women’s soccer, many have played the game and the rest have either coached or covered the game for FOX or other networks.
