FIFA inform US and Swiss authorities over Blatter enrichment

Zurich (AFP) – World football governing body FIFA is informing US and Swiss authorities about disgraced former president Sepp Blatter and deputies Jerome Valcke and Markus Kattner for trying to “enrich themselves” with $80 million.

FIFA said on Friday they have passed on the information to Swiss prosecutors and will also inform US authorities, the two countries where criminal investigations into corruption at the scandal-tainted body are ongoing.

“The evidence appears to reveal a coordinated effort by three former top officials of FIFA to enrich themselves through annual salary increases, World Cup bonuses and other incentives totalling more than 79 million Swiss francs ($80 million, 71 million euros) -– in just the last five years,” said Bill Burck, a partner with Quinn Emanuel, the attorneys conducting FIFA’s internal investigation.
