England Card Collection From 1998 World Cup: Photos

It’s day four of cleaning out my garage (it’s looking pretty tidy so far). Today I uncovered a pack of England cards that were issued by Upper Deck in 1998 under the title of “England: The England Card Collection.”

In the above picture, you’ll see five of the six cards that were contained in a special cardboard box. The entire collection contains 90 cards, which was part of the anticipation that built up to the 1998 World Cup in France where England surprised many by putting in a good performance in the tournament.

In the five cards pictured above, you can see a great aerial image of what the old Wembley looked like, as well as one card reminiscing about England’s disappointment in the 1970 World Cup when they lost their crown to West Germany. Then there’s Paul Ince in England’s away kit, and David Batty looking regal in the home kit. Last but not least there’s a trip down memory lane to the England against Cameroon match from the 1990 World Cup where England clung on for victory in a fascinating match.
