Arsenal

Depression and Elation in the English Premier League

I don’t know about you, but I’m getting sick of the whole Ashley Cole (and now William Gallas) saga. Arsenal has the slight advantage in terms of negotiating power because they know Chelsea has been trying to sign Cole for more than a year now. However, if he stays at Arsenal, Wenger knows he’s not going to get the best of Cole because the left back’s heart won’t be in it.

What it illustrates to me, more so, is the level of competitiveness and tension between Arsenal and Chelsea. No one wants to give up power, especially to one of their arch-rivals.

At this rate, I can see the transfer saga dragging on until next week when the transfer window closes.

In the meantime, on to more positive news, Newcastle has agreed to sign Obafemi Martins from Inter Milan. It’s now up to the player and agent to agree terms and the transfer will then be complete. If the signing goes through, which looks very likely, United will have their replacement for Alan Shearer. Except a huge turnout at St James’s Park shortly for the unveiling of the star striker.
