David Silva Signs With Manchester City

Spanish national team winger David Silva’s long suspected departure from Valencia to Manchester City is now official, bolstering City’s hopes for Champion’s League qualification during the 2010-11 season.

Silva signed his contract on Wednesday, after completing a mandatory physical. He has seen his role diminished under Vincente Del Bosque but his 10 goals and eight assists with Valencia was enough to convince Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini. “I am so pleased he is coming to us, I think he can make a big, big impact for Manchester City. In signing David, we are showing the world that we are bringing the best players here and that we hope to compete to win the Premier League,” said Mancini

City acquired the Spanish midfielder for £24 million and his recently-signed contract is reportedly worth £160,000 per week. “The time is right for me to seek a new challenge, and I am thrilled about playing in England with Manchester City,” said Silva, who spent seven seasons in La Liga. “I believe the Premier League is one of the best competitions in the world and I want to bring success to City and win trophies for them.
