Daryl Dike injured again; will miss rest of season

USMNT striker Daryl Dike is set to face a lengthy spell on the sidelines after being stretchered off during West Brom’s 2-1 victory over Stoke.

Just before the halftime whistle, Dike fell awkwardly and had to receive treatment, including an oxygen mask.

The 22-year-old eventually left the field on a stretcher and West Brom manager Carlos Corberan claimed that the player will miss the action for a prolonged period.

He said, “It looks like an Achilles injury, and they never really are good. Achilles injuries are never easy to manage but still, we need to assess. We need to see how much damage appears and depending on this, we will know the months.”

Dike had joined West Brom from Barnsley in January of last year after sealing his move to England following his starry spell at Orlando City.

Dike missed World Cup through injury

The striker missed the World Cup in Qatar last year through injury.

However, he returned to national duty as he featured in USMNT’S wins over Grenada and El Salvador during last month’s international break.

He has been in good form this season, hitting the back of the net 7 times in 23 games in the Championship.

Had it not been for his latest setback, Dike would have surely claimed his place for the upcoming CONCACAF Nations League semi-final against Mexico in June.

However, with the nature of the Achilles injuries, it will take some time to determine when the player will be back in action. This would certainly mean that other strikers will be preferred until the Baggies player resumes full fitness.

Dike’s injury also comes at a bad time for his club.

West Brom battling for playoff places

West Brom’s ambitions are to reach a playoff spot at the end of the current campaign.

The Baggies are in sixth with 63 points from 41 games, with teams from fifth to tenth separated by just 5 points with only a handful of game weeks remaining at the business end of the season.
