The inaugural Dallas soccer tournament that promised Newcastle United, Lyon, Chivas, Pachuca, Swansea and other teams has decided to cancel this summer’s tournament, and will try to host the competition again next summer.
Entitled the Intercontinental Peace Cup, the tournament listed Newcastle United, Swansea City, Malaga, Chivas de Guadalajara, Pachuca, Olympique Lyonnais and Raja Club Athletic as participants. The games were scheduled to be played at Dallas’ Cotton Bowl and Frisco’s Toyota Stadium.
But after Pachuca, Malaga and Swansea City pulled out, event organizers decided to put a halt to the competition. The event organizers made the decision to cancel the tournament “based on a number of challenging situations and logistical factors with the number of soccer events already on the books for 2015,” according to a statement from David McShane of event organizer M3 Sports.
While the games in Dallas are cancelled, there are plenty of other teams playing in the United States this summer according to our preseason schedule.
Swansea, meanwhile, are evaluating options about where to reschedule their summer tour.
