Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo departs Manchester United by mutual consent

Cristiano Ronaldo is out at Manchester United. The Red Devils parted ways with their superstar after a series of controversial decisions by the Portugal international.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect,” an official statement by the Premier League club read.

“The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.”

“Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch.”

Player’s outbursts began in August

Ronaldo, now 37, previously began the current campaign with a social media post about “lies” regarding his future with Manchester United. The superstar blasted claims that he wanted to depart to play in the Champions League. There was wide speculation that he wanted to leave Manchester during the summer transfer period. This, however, obviously did not occur.

The player’s relationship with his manager also soured fairly quickly. Ten Hag usually opted to keep Ronaldo on the bench for most of the team’s league matches this season. Ronaldo then refused to enter a game as a substitute during a massive matchup with Tottenham Hotspur last month.

Interview eliminates Cristiano Ronaldo time at Manchester United

After being suspended for one match, ten Hag reintroduced Ronaldo back into the team. However, things did not exactly go as planned for the club. The Portugal international ripped Manchester United and the club’s owners during a scathing interview with Piers Morgan earlier in the month.

The outburst was clearly the last straw for the club. It was obvious that there was no turning back for either side after the surprising interview from Ronaldo. Eight days after the interview first appeared on social media, Manchester United have cut ties with the player.

Now that he is no longer a United player, Ronaldo can essentially sign with any team. Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Inter Miami are among the teams that have reportedly held interest in signing the star. However, a final decision will most likely take place after Portugal’s World Cup run is over.
