An era is approaching its end. Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that his retirement could come sooner than expected, hinting that the 2026–27 campaign may be his final season as a professional soccer player.

Following a challenging 2026 FIFA World Cup with Portugal, Ronaldo clarified that he would not participate in the 2030 tournament as an active player, reaffirming that 2026 marked his final international competition.  

Speaking to Vogue, Ronaldo stated that the 2026–27 season with Al-Nassr will likely mark the conclusion of his career. “This is probably my last year of football. I want to leave a spectacular legacy,” he revealed.

After a 2026 World Cup in which Portugal fell short in the knockout stage, Ronaldo is focused on solidifying his achievements with Al-Nassr. He aims to secure silverware in Saudi Arabia while pursuing the historic 1,000 career goals milestone.

During the 2030 World Cup, Ronaldo will be 45 years old. While his physical fitness remains exceptional, he recognized that competing at the international level requires immense physical sacrifice, leading him to plan his retirement at the conclusion of his current club campaign.
