Costa Rica vs US Men's National Team Match Highlights: World Cup Qualifying [VIDEO]

The United States continued its run of never winning an away World Cup qualifying match in Costa Rica Friday after losing 3-1 on a disappointing night for the red, white and blue.

US midfielder Michael Bradley pulled out of the match after injuring his ankle during warm ups, which dealt the USMNT a big blow. Bradley was replaced by defender Geoff Cameron.

More bad news followed for the United States after Costa Rica opened the scoring in the second minute after scoring at the near post from a corner.

Less than 10 minutes later, Costa Rica doubled their lead. Again, it was another header in the box, but this one left American goalkeeper Tim Howard flat-footed and unable to prevent Celso Borges’s powering header from going into the goal.

Clint Dempsey pulled one back for the United States in the 43rd minute from a penalty kick, but Costa Rica put the game out of the USA’s reach in the 75th minute after Joel Campbell scored on the counter attack, putting the ball between Tim Howard’s legs.

To make matters even worse for the United States, the USA saw three players shown yellow cards, which means all three – Cameron, Besler and Altidore – will be suspended for the Mexico game.

The next match for the United States is Tuesday night against Mexico in Columbus.
