Chelsea narrows search to Amorim, Nagelsmann and Enrique

Chelsea have reportedly narrowed the list of candidates to become the club’s next manager down to three. Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique have been linked with the job practically ever since Graham Potter was sacked. However, there is supposedly a surprising new option for the Blues.

The Guardian is claiming that Chelsea have also discussed the coaching vacancy with Sporting’s Rúben Amorim. The 38-year-old former midfielder has been with Portuguese club Sporting since the Spring of 2020. Alongside Nagelsmann, Amorim’s reputation is as one of the brightest young coaches in all of Europe.

Amorim has been successful at two Portuguese clubs

The coach arrived to Sporting in 2020 after just 13 matches in charge of rivals Braga. Despite the short period of time at Braga, Amorim actually collected a trophy before departing for Sporting. The coach led his team to the Taca de Liga title during the 2019/20 season. He left for Lisbon just over a month later.

At Sporting, Amorim has won the last two Taca de Liga trophies as well. He also won the Primeira Liga in his first full season at the helm. Chelsea will certainly not be the only top team looking to sign Amorim in the near future. The Portuguese coach currently boasts a 69% combined win rate over his coaching career.

Luis Enrique, Nagelsmann still frontrunners for Chelsea

Luis Enrique and Nagelsmann are the frontrunners for the Chelsea job. Interestingly, the aforementioned outlet claims Naglesmann is admired by Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali specifically. The 35-year-old coach is unemployed after his Bayern Munich firing in March. All three candidates have collected significant silverware in their coaching careers.

Frank Lampard will coach Chelsea until the end of the current campaign. The Stamford Bridge legend previously managed the west London club from 2019 to 2021.

The highly-rated trio will most likely have other options in case the Chelsea interest does not culminate in an official offer. Fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are also in the market for a new manager. Paris Saint-Germain could very well have a vacancy this summer as well.
