Champions League Draw: Pots Decided, Seeds Announced

Pot 1
Barcelona – Liverpool – Chelsea – Manchester United – Arsenal – AC Milan – Sevilla – Bayern Munich

Pot 2
Werder Bremen – Real Madrid – Roma – Shakhtar Donetsk – Benfica – Valencia – Marseille – Panathinaikos

Pot 3
Tottenham Hotspur – Rangers – Ajax – Schalke 04 – FC Basel – Sporting Braga – FC Copenhagen – Spartak Moscow

Pot 4
Hapoel Tel-Aviv – FC Twente – Rubin Kazan – Auxerre – CFR Cluj – Partizan Belgrade – MSK Zilina – Bursaspor

The way the draw tomorrow morning will work, is that one team from each pot will be drawn into a group, but a team from the same country and a team from the same pot cannot be drawn into the same group. For example, a group could consist of:

Barcelona
Werder Bremen
Tottenham Hotspur
FC Twente

or,

Manchester United
Real Madrid
Schalke 04
Auxerre

With Schalke in pot 3, they’d be a side playing against the odds to secure a place in the first knockout round of Europe’s elite tournament. Tomorrow’s draw will reveal the Champions League groups and we’ll have a better look at what the chances are for the Bundesliga’s representatives.
