Cardiff City Home and Away Shirts for 2012-13 Season: From Blue to Red

Cardiff City has released a photograph of their new home and away shirts for the 2012-13 season.

Controversially, Cardiff has decided to change the color of its home shirt from blue to red — even though the club has worn blue as their home color since 1908, and even though the club’s nickname is the Bluebirds.

The decision by Cardiff’s Malaysian owners to make the change was due to a rebranding. Plus, the color red is perceived as being a very lucky color in Asia. The decision by the owners of Cardiff City to make this change is pathetic. Changing the colors of a team and their club crest isn’t going to change the fortunes of the club. It’s only going to anger the Cardiff supporters, and to turn the club into a laughing stock in England and Wales.

The kit designer associated with the change is Puma. The controversy from the change, I’m sure, isn’t going to win any new Puma fans.

We’ll have to wait and see how many Cardiff City supporters back the change to red. While red is the color of Wales, Cardiff is not the only football club in Wales. Neighbors Swansea City are in the top flight in England, and have stayed true to their roots by wearing white.

What an awful decision by Cardiff City, destroying so much of the club’s history in one day.
