In a closely fought match between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, Jurgen Klopp’s side won the 2013 German Super Cup today after defeating Pep Guardiola’s side 4-2 in front of a packed Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund.
Borussia Dortmund were in control for most of the match, taking an early lead from a Marco Reus goal that capitalized on a goalkeeping mistake by Tom Starke, who palmed the ball into Reus’s path. Dortmund went into the dressing room at half-time with a narrow 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Bayern Munich bounced back after a well headed goal by Arjen Robben near the far post after Dortmund’s Kevin Grosskreutz failed the mark to Dutch left-footed wonder. But within minutes, Borussia Dortmund grabbed two quick goals to extend the lead to 3-1 before Bayern Munich’s Robben pulled another one back on a beautiful twist and turn to make it a thrilling finish. But with Pep Guardiola’s side pushing forward, Bayern Munich were caught on the counter attack as Marco Reus grabbed his second goal of the game to finish it 4-2 to Dortmund.
