Al Hilal set sights on Gabriel Martinelli to counter Cristiano Ronaldo, Al Nassr in Saudi Pro League

As Al Hilal face uncertainty over whether Karim Benzema will remain at the club, they have activated a contingency plan that includes targeting Gabriel Martinelli to rival Cristiano Ronaldo and reigning Saudi Pro League champions Al Nassr.

Al Hilal last lifted the SPL title in the 2023–24 campaign. The club has built a formidable squad in recent years, with Benzema arriving as their highest-profile attacking marquee.

However, reports indicate that Benzema could seek a return to European soccer in the coming weeks. With that possibility looming, Al Hilal are actively exploring high-caliber options to bolster their forward line.

Gabriel Martinelli emerges as a top option for Al Hilal

Following rumors of Benzema’s potential exit, primary center-forward candidates like Harry Kane, Ollie Watkins, and Victor Osimhen were linked as possible replacements. Now, a new shortlist of wide attackers has emerged.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Gabriel Martinelli has been placed on a three-man shortlist by Al Hilal. While the Arsenal forward prefers to remain in Europe, Al Hilal are prepared to test his resolve with a substantial financial offer should they make him their primary target.  

The same report indicates that Martinelli is joined on the shortlist by Chelsea winger Pedro Neto and one additional target. The Arsenal star represents a top priority, though the Portuguese winger is also viewed very favorably by head coach Simone Inzaghi.

Al Hilal aim to reclaim Saudi Pro League dominance

Over the past 10 seasons, Al Hilal have won six Saudi Pro League titles, firmly establishing their domestic dominance. However, recent campaigns have proven more competitive.

In the past two seasons, Al Hilal finished as runners-up behind Al Ittihad and Al Nassr. While they still lead the Saudi Pro League all-time record with 21 titles—well ahead of closest rivals Al Ittihad (14)—the club is determined to reclaim the crown by securing top-tier talent in the transfer market.
