Milan (AFP) – Romania captain Vlad Chiriches has undergone successful surgery after suffering torn anterior cruciate knee ligaments playing in the Nations League, his Italian club Napoli said on Monday.
The 28-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur defender was injured playing against Montenegro last week, which ended in a goalless draw.
“The surgery was successful … the defender will remain a couple of days in the clinic and then immediately start physiotheraphy,” the Serie A runners-up said.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side are fifth in Serie A after losing one of their three opening games, and begin their Champions League campaign at Red Star Belgrade next Tuesday, before hosting Liverpool on October 3.
