Why Ted Lasso season 3 could be the end of the Apple TV series

Hit television series Ted Lasso looks set to possibly end after the completion of its third season. The first two seasons of the series met overwhelming praise. In fact, both seasons earned 20 Primetime Emmy Awards nominations each.

Nevertheless, Sudeikis recently discussed the future of the show with Entertainment Tonight. In the interview, the actor admitted writers put together Ted Lasso with the intention to end after three seasons. “I mean, that’s how we went about writing it, that we wanted to close up this chapter of it,” claimed Sudeikis.

“So much changed with when you hire writers, when you cast it, just based on the elements of the day like, ‘Oh, we want this to happen, but oh, it’s raining,’ so you have go with the flow. So, there’s good ways to go with the flow, and there’s adjustments. It’s all been splendid and harmonious, but the idea was to do three years. I mean, if we had the opportunity, if we were able to, never know how something’s going to be received.”

Sudeikis admits pressure to get third season right

Along with revealing that the upcoming third season could signify the end of the series, Sudeikis also spoke about the pressure of getting the next installment right. “Gosh, I mean, the pressure that I know I felt was just from within, within the confines of our little circle that write the show, and make the show and then edit the show,” said Sudeikis.

“So, we have the bar that we try to hit, that luckily people have seemed to enjoy at the level at which we’ve been operating after the first two seasons, so, it’s less external pressure.”

Future Ted Lasso spin-off possible after end of series

In a separate interview with Deadline, Sudeikis also suggested that fans could get their Ted Lasso fix from a potential spin-off. “I think that we’ve set the table for all sorts of folks… to get to watch the further telling of these stories,” stated the actor.

“The fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don’t even know yet, that being season three, it’s flattering,” Sudeikis continued. “Maybe by May 31, once all 12 episodes of the season [have been released], they’re like, ‘Man, you know what, we get it, we’re fine. We don’t need anymore, we got it.’”

Season three of Ted Lasso begins on March 15 on Apple TV+. All 12 episodes of the upcoming season release weekly until the finale is available on May 31.
