Cable customers pay average of $104/month excluding internet

Cable customers pay a ton of money for television subscriptions. A recent study by Scripps Networks shows that the monthly price for a cable package here in the United States averages $103.90.

This does not include a separate internet package. Although cable services do not need internet, many American households that have cable also have internet.

In 2022, Decision Data reported that the average monthly cable package was $217.42 for a combination of Internet plus cable.

Cable, satellite subscribers steadily dropping

The Scripps study found that cable and satellite usage is down 10% compared to the previous year. This decline aligns with similar results in recent years.

Unsurprisingly, streaming services are continually on the rise. In fact, free streaming has doubled over the last two years and is now in 37% of total American households.

American flocking to streaming services despite price increases

Many paid streaming services increased in popularity in 2022. This includes Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV+, ESPN+, Disney+, and Fubo.

Despite these recent price increases, live streaming services are still cheaper than many cable packages. Fubo’s Pro plan is $74.99 per month and includes over 150 channels, DVR, and unlimited users inside the home. YouTube TV also has similar channels and features for $72 each month. Sling TV offers a more customized option, although fewer channels, but for a lesser cost to the consumer ($40/month).

It was revealed in February that cable was in less than half of all United States households. Usage of streaming services is steadily increasing, despite these aforementioned minor price hikes.

For soccer fans, specifically, consumers can watch the majority of Premier League, UEFA Champions League, Serie A, LaLiga, Bundesliga for $20 per month. The combination of Peacock Premium and Paramount+ plus ESPN+ is hard to beat.

Many cordcutting options are far less expensive than cable and satellite television.
