Moukoko might consider summer transfer, agent hints

After a depressing World Cup where German wunderkind Youssoufa Moukoko played just one minute, Moukoko is reportedly leaning towards leaving Dortmund in January.

That’s right. Moukoko could leave Dortmund right as they launch what could be their closest shot at winning the Bundesliga in almost a decade. The precocious prodigy leads the Black in Yellow in both goals and assists.

Losing him, the focal part of a fairly potent attack, would be a big blow to their future hopes of winning the Bundesliga and eventually the World Cup.

Agent sparks rumours

In a press conference with the Sky Sports office in Germany, Moukoko’s agent, Patrick Williams, updated anxious fans with news about Moukoko’s contract disagreements.

“I can confirm that we are not about to conclude a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund,” Williams shrugged. “But we are still in contact with Dortmund and will see what the next few days bring.”

Rumors are circulating that the DFB-Pokal winner wanted at least a 115,000 euro-per-week contract, a 2600% increase from his current 5,000-euro-per-week contract. His rumored demands would make him more expensive than Randal Kolo Muani(61), Marcus Thuram(28), and Josko Gvardiol combined.

Yet Williams denies that Moukoko wanted such a hefty wage bill. “I can also assure you that the numbers that are circulating are simply not correct and Youssoufa was never offered that much,” he said.

Chelsea lead the race

Sky reporters have said that Chelsea was the closest to signing the teenager, with United, Liverpool, Barca, Newcastle, and more all following close behind. Williams did not outright shut down the rumors of an impending switch.

“A player like Youssoufa is interesting for every top club in the world. Especially when he is free and has a future in the German national team,” Williams said, implying that there may have already been inquiries about a free transfer in 2023.

Moukoko and Dortmund will resume their conquest of the Bundesliga with matches against Augsburg, Mainz, and Leverkusen in late January. Dortmund is sixth in the table, nine points away from first place and two away from a Champions League spot.
