Connor Wickham and England's 17 Year Old Wonderkids

This season has seen the emergence of three seventeen year old English youngsters who despite being in the embryonic stages of their careers are showing real promise.

This trio who are barely old enough to drive have have caught the eye of fans and scouts alike with performances in three different divisions that display talent and maturity beyond their years.
In the Premiership Josh McEachran is slowly forcing his way towards the Chelsea starting line up gaining new admirers of his talents with every morsel of first team action he earns, whilst in League One Alex Oxlade Chamberlain is a regular in the Southampton line up reportedly catching the eye of a host of Premier League clubs.
The final player in this trio is Connor Wickham who along with McEachran featured in England’s European Championship winning under 17 side last summer, with the Ipswich striker scoring the winning against Spain in the final.
Wickham has featured regularly for Ipswich with his appearances split almost equally between starts and substitute appearances.
Last night he raised his high profile even further by netting a hat trick in Ipswich’s six goal annihlation of Doncaster.

His goals showed a range of his developing skills featuring a poachers effort a volley and a penalty in a performance which makes it even more likely Paul Jewell will spend the summer refusing to answer the phone to Premier League managers with an eye for talented young footballers.

The future of English football looks bright even and if Wickham and co continue to develop it the senior side may start reaping the benefits before the World Cup in Brazil.

As I am sure many people have told you already listen out for the names McEachran, Oxlade Chamberlain and Wickham you may be hearing them alot in the next ten to fifteen years.
