Franco Mastantuono has been on the radar of several top European clubs, but he’s now edging closer to a move to Paris Saint-Germain. The French giants are determined to sign River Plate’s 17-year-old gem during this summer transfer window—a move that could see both clubs competing in the FIFA Club World Cup.
According to Bolavip Argentina, PSG have made significant progress in talks to land the Argentine youngster. The plan would be to secure the deal now and loan him back to River until December, in a strategy similar to Manchester City’s deal with Claudio Echeverri. It remains to be seen whether PSG will pay Mastantuono’s $45 million release clause or negotiate a slightly lower fee.
Aware of the strong competition, PSG have already launched their charm offensive to convince the player. Reports suggest Luis Enrique has personally reached out to Mastantuono, encouraging him to continue his career in Paris.
The other major contender, Real Madrid, has shown interest but has yet to make a formal offer. While there has been some contact with the player’s camp, no official bid has been submitted to River Plate. At this point, PSG appear to be leading the race for his signature.
Recently called up to the Argentina National Team
Adding to his growing reputation, Mastantuono has been called up to the Argentina national team, where he would be teammates with Lionel Messi. The chance to play alongside the captain in both international football and potentially at PSG could further influence his decision.
When asked about a possible transfer abroad, Mastantuono remained focused on River after the most recent Superclásico: “I’m focused on River. We have a lot ahead of us, and I want to keep enjoying my time here. In the future, we’ll see—but right now my head is in River.”

A breakout season
Mastantuono is enjoying his best season since debuting in River’s first team. The left-footed midfielder has become Marcelo Gallardo’s key attacking weapon, delivering consistently strong performances.
Across the Argentine Primera División, Copa Libertadores, and Copa Argentina, the 17-year-old has scored 7 goals and provided 4 assists in 19 appearances. One of his standout moments was a spectacular free-kick goal against Boca Juniors in the Monumental.
