It’s no surprise that Real Madrid and Barcelona dominate the La Liga salary rankings. What stands out, however, is the gap between the two clubs, with Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior as the highest-paid players in Spanish soccer.

L’Equipe published an analysis this Wednesday of the highest salaries in Europe’s top leagues. When focusing specifically on La Liga, they created a top-five list that shows the dominance of one club: four of the five highest-paid players in the Spanish league play for Real Madrid.

At the top of the ranking, for now, are Mbappe and Vinicius, both with a gross monthly salary calculated at €2,670,000 (around $37 million per year). However, this parity between Real Madrid’s two stars could change soon, as Vinicius’ contract includes a raise starting next season.

It’s worth noting that when additional earnings beyond the fixed salary are included, Mbappe holds an advantage. “The French national team captain (27 years old) remains, however, the highest-paid player at the Madrid club, thanks to bonuses included in his contract, which runs until June 2029,” L’Equipe notes.

Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski is Barcelona’s best paid player.

The top three in La Liga salaries is completed by another Real Madrid player: David Alaba, with a gross monthly salary of €1,880,000. Next is the first player from another club, Robert Lewandowski, who earns about €1,730,000 at Barcelona. Finally, tied for fifth are Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak, both at €1,670,000.

Salary rankings in other top European leagues

In addition to calculating the highest salaries in La Liga, L’Equipe performed the same analysis for Europe’s other top leagues. Across all of them, the only player approaching the numbers of Mbappe and Vinicius is Erling Haaland. The Manchester City striker has a reported monthly salary of €2,630,000 (around $36.4 million per year).

Haaland clearly leads the Premier League ranking, followed by Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (€2,000,000), Manchester United’s Casemiro and Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk (both €1,750,000), and finally Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka (€1,500,000).

In Italy, the numbers are more modest. Dusan Vlahovic leads with €1,850,000 at Juventus, followed by Lautaro Martinez with €1,390,000 at Inter Milan and Paulo Dybala with €1,080,000 at AS Roma.

Finally, France presents a unique case: the highest salary is not a player, but a coach. “With his upcoming contract extension worth around €20 million annually, PSG coach Luis Enrique will soon be the highest-paid figure in our league,” L’Equipe reports. Ousmane Dembele follows with €18 million per year.
