Aaron Hunt

Woflsburg sell midfielder Aaron Hunt to Hamburg

Wolfsburg have confirmed the sale of Aaron Hunt to Hamburg on a busy day of transfer activity at the northern Germany club.

Following the sale of Kevin De Bruyne to Manchester City on Sunday, the Wolves bought Julian Draxler, Dante and Ismail Azzaoui on Monday and have now allowed Hunt to leave after only a year at the club.

“I would like to thank (director of sport) Klaus Allofs for giving me this opportunity to move to Hamburg at such short notice,” Hunt said on vfl-wolfsburg.de.

“Even if it was not always easy for me on a sporting level, I always felt happy at the club and within the team.”

Hunt, who arrived at Wolfsburg on a free transfer from Werder Bremen a year ago, has signed a three-year contract with Bremen’s local rivals Hamburg after making only 17 Bundesliga appearances for the Wolves.

“Aaron kept getting set back by injuries and because of this he did not have an easy time here,” said Allofs.

“Nevertheless, he was an important part of our team and we wish him all the best with Hamburg.”

The 28-year-old has played a total of 232 Bundesliga games and scored 48 times, while he was capped three times by Germany.

Hamburg coach Bruno Labbadia told his club’s website hsv.de: “We are very happy we could sign a player of this quality just before the end of the transfer window. Aaron Hunt will strengthen us immediately.”
