In a hotly contested match between Newcastle United and Southampton at St James’ Park on Saturday, Premier League referee Mike Jones was inadvertently struck in the face by Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko, forcing the ref to get treatment to recover from the blow.
Just minutes later, a foul on Newcastle United’s Massadio Haïdara by Morgan Schneiderlin resulted in a bench-clearing brawl, resulting in two coaches being sent to the stands.
The final score ended 1-1.
