UEFA Team of the Year Revealed; La Liga and Bundesliga Stars Monopolize Honors

UEFA has revealed its 2014 Team of the Year as voted on by UEFA.com users.

More than 8.6 million votes were tallied and the starting eleven was selected from a 40-man shortlist. The nominees were based on their overall performances in European club football and international competitions.

The team is as follows:

Goalkeeper – Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich/Germany)

Defender – Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid/Spain)

Defender – Phillipp Lahm (Bayern Munich/Germany)

Defender – David Alaba (Bayern Munich/Austria)

Defender – Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid/Uruguay)

Midfielder – Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich/Netherlands)

Midfielder – Angel di Maria (Real Madrid/Manchester United/Argentina)

Forward – Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid/Portugal)

Forward – Lionel Messi (Barcelona/Argentina)

Forward – Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Paris Saint-Germain/Sweden)

As you can see, an attacking 4-3-3 formation was chosen by the voters (37%).

Cristiano Ronaldo made the list for the eighth consecutive year and received the most votes with 623,046. Messi made the team for the sixth time – he missed out on the starting eleven in 2013.

Diego Godin, Angel di Maria and Toni Kroos all made the team for the first time.
